Online travel agencies bring reach, and they take a share of every booking they send. A hotel website will not replace them, but it can win the guests who already know you: repeat guests, referrals, and people who search your hotel by name.
Think about who your website is for
OTAs are strong at discovery, putting your hotel in front of people who have never heard of it. Your website has a different job. It serves the guest who is already interested: someone who was recommended your hotel, stayed before, or saw a listing and then searched your name on Google. If that guest lands on a slow, confusing site, they usually go back to the OTA and book there.
What a booking-ready hotel website needs
- A booking or enquiry path that takes two taps on a phone. Direct call and WhatsApp buttons matter a lot for hotels in India, where many guests prefer to ask before they book.
- Clear rooms and rates. Photos, what is included, and how to confirm availability, without making guests hunt for it.
- The same information as your OTA listings. Photos, room names, amenities and policies that match avoid doubt and complaints.
- A reason to book direct. Offer only what you can always honour, such as flexible check-in, a complimentary item, or a faster reply.
- A strong Google Business Profile that links to the site. This is where most name searches land first.
- Follow-up after the stay. A simple guest record lets you message returning guests directly instead of paying to reach them again.
Keep your OTAs, and manage them well
For most hotels the answer is not to leave OTAs but to keep their listings accurate and consistent while building the direct channel next to them. Over time, each returning guest who books direct is one you did not have to pay to reach a second time.
