Hotels often find that most search clicks come from people typing the hotel's own name. To reach new guests, publish honest landmark pages: the nearby hospital, consulate, mall or railway station that visitors are actually travelling to, with real distances, directions and room details.
The pattern we see
In a three-month Search Console export for a five-hotel group in Chennai, most of the clicks came from searches containing a hotel's own name. Branded demand is valuable, but it only captures guests who already know you. Guests who do not know you search for what they need: "hotel near [hospital]", "stay near [consulate]", "hotel close to [railway station]".
Why landmarks work
- Intent is clear. Someone visiting a hospital or consulate needs a nearby, safe, reasonably priced room.
- Distance matters to Google. It names distance as one of three local ranking ideas, so a page that says exactly how far you are is relevant.
- AI tools can quote it. A clear sentence such as "five minutes by auto from the main gate" is easy for an answer engine to reuse.
How to build a landmark page honestly
- Choose landmarks your guests really visit. Ask the front desk why guests travel to the area.
- Use verified distances and times. Measure on a map and write them as approximate. Do not claim "next door" for 1.5 km.
- Say what helps the visitor: early check-in policy, kitchen rooms for long stays, family suites, parking if you truly have it, a 24-hour desk.
- Show real photos of the rooms they will get.
- Link to the booking and WhatsApp paths so the page converts.
- Do not copy the same page for ten landmarks. Each page needs its own useful detail or it is thin content.
Fix the group versus single-hotel confusion
When a group has one website and each hotel has its own, give each a clear role. The group site explains the whole group; each hotel site owns that hotel's searches and its Business Profile. Link the Business Profile to the individual hotel page, and make sure titles do not compete for the same query.

Measure it
In Search Console filter queries that do not contain your brand name and watch impressions and clicks on landmark pages monthly. Expect it to build over months, not days.
Frequently asked questions
How many landmark pages should a hotel have?
Only as many as you have real, distinct information for. Three useful pages beat twenty thin ones.
Will landmark pages help in ChatGPT answers?
They give AI tools clear, quotable facts about your location. That helps, but no tool guarantees a mention.
